Father’s nature

When you think on Father’s kindness and love it really is awesome.

And when you realize that it’s only through our wretchedness that his love is exemplified it soothes our broken souls!

This is really the distinction between the believer and the unbeliever now

It’s not in us, how we behave or how we think. It’s in the knowledge that we have faith in.

Belief isn’t a doing on our part – it’s a discovering. It is given to us to believe that Father is who he says he is – to them on the outside it is not given. Which is why they strain so much to appear approved but we – we rest in our broken vessels knowing this – that His strength is made perfect in our weakness! His love is shown vividly in our unloveableness.

But it’s more than this. It’s the fact that Father’s preference is what matters – not mans or our own.

Songs of solomon is awesome for showing this. When I am enamoured of a beautiful woman there’s nothing she could possibly do that would make me not want to spend a night with her – that would make me shun her company.

Of course man’s love – mine and our love – is imperfect. It comes and it goes. But we are constantly the apple of Father’s eye.

Not only is our love imperfect but it is impotent. Only God could break the apple of his eye in order to show the apple of his the depths of his love.

How does God make us secure in his love? He puts us into conditions where we do the very things we fear will separate us from his love and after we have broken all the conditions, done all the nasties does he come and bathe us in the Holy Spirit (though not for everyone now only the elect “each man in his own rank”)

We know this – those on the outside don’t know this. Father’s nature, predisposition and ultimate plan is the same for both!

Joseph and the justification of evil/sin

A good place to see the true nature of evil is in the story of Joseph.

This shows us the divine perspective on evil. How it is a tool in the hands of Father. A tool He uses for glorious ends.

In fact the place that good and evil should have in our understanding is one of instruments.

Too many people think of them as the ultimate end; the truth is that both of them are instruments Yahweh uses for a much greater end. They are the tools by which He reveals Himself.

In the story of Joseph we see something extraordinarily wicked happen. Joseph’s brothers sell him into slavery. Not only that but they initially intended to kill him!

It was only a small number who reneged on that intention and instead sold him to the Ishmaelites.

If that were the end of it then those actions would have been wicked. Luckily for Joseph and his brothers it was not.

Those wicked acts were the means by which Yahweh saved the house of Abraham.

A drought and famine came upon the land. It was by the God-given wisdom and ability to interpret dreams that Joseph had that Egypt was able to secure itself against this calamity.

It was the result of Joseph’s prudent administration of Egypt that Egypt acquired an abundance of stores. It was because of these stores that Egypt was able to be the saviour (with a small s) of the house of Abraham.

We can see that God was the initiator of these events in the fact that it was God who gave Joseph the dreams that incited his brother’s ire and acted as an impetus to their wicked actions.

If this weren’t evidence enough Joseph himself provides the most damning piece of evidence: “As for you, ye devised against me evil — God devised it for good, in order to do as at this day, to keep alive a numerous people;” Gen 50:20

This is a type of how God is going to justify Himself and mankind. How God is going to right every wrong. How God is going to display His own righteousness.

After evil has finished it’s divine work we will all see that it was meant for good. That it was meant for life!

It won’t be a paltry forgiveness which leaves the evil untouched. It will be a very visible and real justification. We will see that everything that has happened was right!

We will look upon all our failures, all the evil we have done with no displeasure because we will see that whereas we in our stupidity meant it for harm God in his wisdom meant it for Good and the ultimate good at that: Life.

“and now, be not grieved, nor let it be displeasing in your eyes that ye sold me hither, for to preserve life hath God sent me before you. “ Genesis 45:5

“For I am the way, the truth and the life” John 14:6

“Joseph replied to them: Do not fear! For am I in the place of Elohim? You devised evil against me, yet Elohim, He devised it for good in order to accomplish, as at this day, to preserve many people alive. So now do not fear; I myself shall sustain you and your little ones. Thus he comforted them and spoke to their hearts.” Genesis 50:19 – 21

I can’t wait to see Judas Iscariot and the Pharisees and Sadducees who killed our saviour for us comforted!

The work that is the body of your faith is REST!

I read in Jeremiah today a verse that really encourages rest.

Often I worry that I’m not doing the will of Father; that I need to be doing something. This worry is often triggered by the downs in the sine wave of my life. I think to myself “This is God telling me I have to do something.”

But Jeremiah’s experience is that he could not resist the will of God! He tried – he really tried – but he just couldn’t resist.

“And I said “I do not mention Him, nor do I speak anymore in His name,” and it hath been as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and i have been weary of containing, and am not able.” jer 20:9

This can be taken in the sense of a test. If you think Father wants you to do something but are unsure… try not to do it! If it’s the will of Father you will be broken if it’s not it will pass!

Isaiah points to a similar experience in the verse:

“And thine ear heareth a word behind thee, Saying, ‘This is the way, go ye in it,’ When ye turn to the right, And when ye turn to the left.” Isaiah 30:21

I am certain that when Father commands us to do something there will be no doubt in our mind concerning Him who speaks.

His power and glory are distinct, separate, holy, unique; every other power and voice is a paltry echo of an echo in comparison to the clarion call that is the power of God!

Also this is living in “the peace of God, that is superior to every frame of mind” Philippians 4:7

It is ignoring our thoughts and feelings and by faith seeing the truth that all things are of God and that God works all things according to the purpose of his will.

All things even you, every thought you have, every feeling you have, and every decision you make and do.

“because of Him, and through Him, and to Him are the all things;” Romans 11:39

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
