Coming Out As Fat

Beautiful! The thing with body image shame is who are we to say we are not beautiful? As if it’s some objective standard! Sure to some people you may not be sexually attractive but to other people you are. Who says that the nay-sayers are right?
The beautiful thing about this is that everyone has a shame. It doesn’t really matter what the shame is about because it’s all the same shame. “One of the best things about consciously experiencing body shame is the compassion it generates for everyone else involved in the same shitty struggle.” Not only does this extend to people who tag shame onto the same objects as us but it – if we look clearly – extends to all people who suffer shame! And as she says it’s what shame and suffering is for: to show us that we are one!
